Rider Information
The Unnamed Epic can be tackled as a Solo (individual) or Team (two-person) challenge. Solo is self explanatory, it's you, you, you start to finish. For the Team category partners can be men, women or a combination. One racer will take on approximately the first half and the other the second.
For the Team competition, there will be one exchange area in Ridgeway which is about the halfway point. We expect that the first half of the course will be a bit easier than the second. Riders will have clothing bags transported to Ridgeway or the finish at Blue Mound State Park. For Team riders both bags must be dropped off at the Mineral Point start.
Start time for the Solo riders will be at early morning on Shake Rag Street in Mineral Point. Team riders will start immediately after at the same location. All riders will have 10 hours to complete the course and be ranked for finish place and awards. There will be cut-off times posted in advance for arrival at Governor Dodge State Park, Ridgeway, and Blue Mound State Park to ensure that riders are on a pace which will give them a reasonable chance to finish within the time limit. After the last cut-off riders will be able to continue to the finish even if they come in outside the 10-hour time, they will just not be officially ranked.
Shuttle busses will return riders (not bikes) to Mineral Point from the finish and from Ridgeway. They will also shuttle riders and spectators to the finish area and back from parking areas in the town of Blue Mounds.
Rules & Categories
Racers will vie for cash and equipment prizes. There will be Unnamed Epic jerseys for the top finishers in the solo and team categories. Awards will also be given in age categories 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and 65 & up. The awards ceremony will be at the park picnic area.
Food Stations & Cut Off Times
Racers will have six food stations along the race route serving water, energy drink, energy gels. Three of these stations will serve as time cut off points which racers must reach in order to proceed and have a shot at reaching the finish in the 10-hour time limit. See the race schedule for locations and times.
For racer supporters wanting to give special feeds, recommended spots include Harris Park, Governor Dodge State Park Cox Hollow swimming area (park pass required), Ridgeway Depot, Barneveld Village Park, Brigham Dane County Park on County Highway F (park in normal parking lot) and Blue Mound State Park swimming pool (park pass required).
Post-Race Fun
The top of Blue Mound State Park is the highest spot in southern Wisconsin and a great location for Unnamed Epic festivities. Post-race food and beverage is included with your entry. Non-racers can purchase this separately.
Showers, swimming and bike wash are available at the park swimming pool. Bring your own towel.
At Harris Park in Dodgeville the End of Summer Bash music festival will be going on until 11 pm (http://www.dodgeville.com/summerfest.html)
On Sunday consider visiting Madison for Ride The Drive (http://www.cityofmadison.com/transportation/ridethedrive) where from 10:00am to 4:00pm you can ride with Lance Armstrong on 6-miles of streets closed to motor vehicle traffic and enjoy many other festivities and exhibits.
